London has plenty of parks and quiet areas, but it’s almost impossible to walk the long distances in between. My boyfriend and I decided to give the Barclays Cycle Hire a try. We cycled from Kensington Palace across Kensington Gardens to the end of London’s Hyde Park.
It takes a few minutes to figure out how to use the system, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy. The bikes are in good shape and there are hundreds of docking stations across London. The only catch: you need a bank card, there’s no cash accepted.
It’s only 1£ to rent a bike per 24hours, which is a great deal. Your bike use is free as long as you repark it correctly at one of the Barclay’s bike stands within 30 minutes. If you don’t bring it back to one of the stations within this time you’ll be charged 1 £ for the next 30 minutes and 4 £ for one hour.
Once you bring your bike back to one of the docking stations, make sure that you lock your bike correctly, otherwise they’ll charge you more – just wait for the light to turn green.
I loved experiencing London by bike. The area around the Kensington Palace offers a very romantic scenery for couples to spend a lovely day apart from London’s melting pots. If you’re in London and want to avoid journeys with the tube, I would definitely give the Cicle Hire a try. Here are a few impressions of our route.
